Video Analysis Week 4
VOICEOVER
- Voiceover is important because it only serves the narrative, but it can also be a character.
- Within this short, there is something ominous et funny about the voice over.
- Listening to voiceovers with language of not our own, they may be emotions that we cannot understand, or see what's being portrayed through the voice.
- Overall this film focuses on voiceover, sound design and different thematic elements to help drive it's narrative.
The Gunfighter
- Sheer irony, the voice over directs the short film, the characters cannot speak in a way without the voiceover.
- Anything that pertains to non-diegetic sounds, the narration, the music, anything that is added in post production, the characters hear as well. This is breaking the forth wall within films, because things like sound tracks we're not supposed to hear unless that is the intention.
Wanders
- This short film likes to utilize musical composition to give the audience something to feel with. There is hardly a point where in the film where there is no music.
- The music, I admit can be overwhelming at points, but I've noticed with all the voiceover videos I have watched, different films choose to highlight certain film elements.
- So in all, the music serves as just as important as the voiceover, maybe a little bit more.
Luis
- I really appreciated the stop motion.
- It's simple yet at the same time, it's still overwhelming because of how thought provoking the plot is. One may have to watch this more than once to understand what is the narrative.
- Also, I really liked the production design, and how the filmmakers were able to meticously plan for shooting on this unique location. Even so they were still breathlessly able to move within the film space, without making seem there was some sort of breakage.
Maybe One Day
- This short film spoke to me a lot more than the others before. It's very difficult to make a film that speaks to a wide variety of people.
- We've always studied, learn and saw how we can manipulate an audience to feel something with the help of mise-en-scene
- This film approach was to only use the voiceover and the music to capture emotion. Some may feel that all films need some sort of sound effects to help "fill" any gaps. But the narration was enough to fill in those gaps.
Losers
- Going back to the idea of films speaking to a wide variety of people. This film does so for me and I am sure I am not the only one.
- This particular film didn't have a narrator, that spoke to us. But rather had people, within the film space (before post-production) speak to others in the film. This story overall is about bullies, and people who are mistreated in schools and in our society in general.
- What this film does is let it speak for itself rather, it speaking for the film.
- There is very little voice, or spoken words in the video, it was all a build up to the end.
