Video Analysis and Interpretations (Week 2)

Pipilotti Rist Interview: Freeing the Wonderlight

In the interview I found two elements.
- Far and near perspectives
Seeing from within and seeing from outwards.
We understand and what we consider the "norm" is, others may shun those who live outside the norm. But art is different, it's subjective and yet objective.
We should live inside the images we perceive, in order to understand them. With the digital world is flat, and she is teaching us that we should be unrestricted in our art, live outside the norm and be free. Visual art shouldn't be normalized.

GONG - Maria Antolini

This short strives for simplicity. No heavy effects. Just color, the music and the inter-cutting throughout the video. Antolini with the usage of subjects inside the video, even though they're animate emotionless objects. The shot composition, and usage of tighter shots and dutch angles, allow us to understand the emotion. I know that this video would take a turn because of the cheery it was in the beginning, but it was still just as interesting to see how it would unfold. This short video alone can teach a individual that you don't need a lot to make a film piece alluring.

PHOTOCOPY CHA CHA

This video utilizes on imagery, relying on the music as the foundation. Using the beats to make cuts. Color also plays a part in here, but it's just an RBG scale, this is not to drown things out. Another sound element is that the narration, which gives the film dynamics. It's entertaining and every time you watch it, you experience something different.
